A 31-year-old individual residing in Obi, Russia, has been apprehended by the FSB in the Novosibirsk region. His alleged crime involves pilfering cryptocurrency from internet users using malicious software since 2018.

Cryptocurrency Thief Nabbed: Using Underground Tools for Theft and Disruption

The investigation suggests that the suspect procured “malicious programs for password theft” from underground internet platforms. These tools enabled him to engage in cryptocurrency theft since 2018, affecting over 1,000 users, as stated by the press service.

Authorities have initiated legal action against the man under Article 273, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which pertains to “Creation, Use, and Distribution of Malicious Computer Programs.” Ongoing efforts are in progress to uncover additional instances of the suspect’s unlawful activities.
