US State Department Cyberattack: Chinese Hackers and Ongoing Investigation
A current investigation into the Chinese hackers, who are allegedly connected to Chinese military or espionage agencies, was launched after the US State Department’s cybersecurity team discovered the attack.
US officials are downplaying the chance that private information was taken, despite some reports suggesting that the hack specifically targeted individual email accounts. No sensitive emails or cloud-based systems, according to the authorities.
The assaults started on May 15, 2023, and mainly targeted email accounts. A little under 25 organizations and a few individual user accounts were impacted.
After a client reported suspicious behavior in their Microsoft email accounts, Microsoft discovered the breach one month later, on June 16, 2023. Through its administrators, the corporation immediately informed all impacted organizations and agencies. However, precise information about the affected businesses and the quantity of hacked accounts has not been made public.
The State Department quickly put safety precautions in place after seeing the odd activities. Additionally, they reassure the public that they will vigilantly watch for any new conduct and act promptly upon it.
