The officials revealed that collaboration between the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the U.S. Cyber Command helped to prevent harmful cyberattacks.

At the 2023 RSA Conference, officials from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and U.S. Cyber Command discussed how their collaboration has stopped dangerous cyberattacks, including one believed to be from Iran against U.S. elections.

The leaders emphasized the importance of their relationship in protecting the country from foreign cyber criminals and are working to break down barriers to information sharing. Despite some complaints about lack of information-sharing from the government, the collaboration between the two organizations seems to be bearing fruit.

Also at the Conference, Maj. Gen. William Hartman and Eric Goldstein of Cyber Command and CISA, respectively, discussed the successful collaboration between their organizations in preventing cyberattacks. They highlighted the importance of information sharing in protecting U.S. networks from foreign hackers.

What the Experts of Cyber Security Say

One example of their joint efforts was when Cyber Command provided CISA with intelligence about an Iranian-linked cyber crime campaign aimed at software used to report election results.

CISA then notified the affected jurisdictions and provided incident response support, while CNMF made sure that the criminals were not allowed to enter those networks. The result had no impact on election infrastructure.

Another example was when CISA discovered a foreign breaching campaign towards three federal agencies and posted information with CNMF to thwart the attack. Hartman emphasized that the ability for DHS CISA to rapidly provide information has been a significant driver for CMNF operations worldwide. Goldstein stated that the further action is to make sure that the relationship becomes institutional and automatic.
