The company states that cybercriminals are supplying authenticated cryptocurrency accounts via the dark web for just $30 each. Privacy Affairs has released a research paper named “The Dark Web Price Index” that shows that hackers are selling all kinds of illegally obtained financial account details on the dark web.
The Official Statement
The report shows that the cost of authenticated crypto accounts on some platforms have risen remarkably in comparison to the prices paid in 2022. For example, a Kraken account now sells for $1,170, Binance for $410, Crypto.com for $300, Coinbase for $250, and a verified U.S.-based Bittrex account for just $30. The prices for authenticated Kraken and Binance accounts were $260 and $250, correspondingly, in 2022.
According to Privacy Affairs, those 30$ accounts remain the most expensive among compromised online accounts. These accounts can be used to evade Know Your Customer (KYC) measures on popular cryptocurrency exchanges.
Other items on sale include credit card details with balances up to $5,000, sold for $110, and online bank account login credentials with balances up to $2,000, sold for $60. Social media accounts, such as Facebook, Airbnb, and Gmail, are also available for as little as $25.
The Rise of the Cyber Attacks
Privacy Affairs security researcher Miklos Zoltan has cautioned that users must be more vigilant with their personal information than ever before. One of the most significant problems nowadays is the increase of compromising accounts on popular crypto platforms.
One of the recent victims was a Coinbase user who sued the company who made him lose almost all his savings. Hackers gained access to a victim’s phone number by swapping a SIM card.
