In a statement, CH Media said: “Initial analyses show that the data is from our delivery organizations.” Regional newspapers like the Aargauer Zeitung and the Luzerner Zeitung are published by the media conglomerate.

“Postal subscriber data can no longer be ruled out based on the present study. In close collaboration with internal and external professionals, as well as the relevant authorities, further in-depth investigations are conducted.

Payroll information and other personal information from the delivery organizations are apparently among the stolen information. 

Hackers From Play Strike Again

A gang that purportedly goes by the name “Play” targeted the IT systems of the Swiss media organizations Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) and CH Media on March 24. Additionally, several publications’ capacity to release entire issues at the time was hampered by the attack.

According to reports, the hackers had sought a ransom to prevent the publication of private employee information on the dark web. Based on the corporation analysis, no NZZ data has been released as of yet, SRF, Switzerland’s public radio, said on Wednesday.

Cybersecurity Breaches

Over the past few years, Swiss private and public entities have fallen victim to numerous cyber attacks, with ransomware incidents becoming increasingly common. Among the targeted organizations were Swiss municipalities, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and defense contractor RUAG.
