In light of the escalating cyber threats globally, Google has rolled out its “Dark Web Report” feature for Google One subscribers in India. This move aims to enhance the protection of users’ personal information from cybercriminals lurking in the internet’s shady corners.
The dark web, known for its illegal activities, poses a significant threat to individuals, with personal details such as names, birth dates, and contact details frequently traded among criminals. Google’s “Dark Web Report” is designed to actively track such information. Users create a unique profile, specifying the data they want monitored. If this data is detected on the dark web, an alert is promptly sent to the user, enabling them to initiate protective measures.
Google One subscribers benefit from enhanced monitoring capabilities, including the ability to customize update frequencies and receive expert advice on safeguarding their data when leaks occur.
India, witnessing a surge in cyber fraud incidents, is among the countries where this feature has been made available. This addition underscores Google’s commitment to fortifying the digital safety of its users in the country.
Earlier this year, Google unveiled a similar feature for Gmail users, empowering them to scan the darknet for their email addresses. Based on the findings, Google provides suggestions like enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) to further shield their accounts from potential breaches.
