On May 24, police in the center of the North Island halted the man’s vehicle. More than $100,000 in cash and a sizable quantity of methamphetamine were found during a search of the car.

Following the man’s detention, a search was conducted at his Lower Hutt residence.

During that search, the NOCG seized more than $500,000 in cash, more than 10.5 kilos of methamphetamine, other substances like GBL and cocaine, a gun, and ammunition.

The 43-year-old male is accused of possessing cocaine, GBL, methamphetamine, and illegally possessing a gun and ammo. He also faces charges for possessing a handgun and ammunition. The inquiry is still ongoing, and more charges could be brought.

The 10.5 kilograms of methamphetamine that were seized are equivalent to more than 500,000 single doses, have a street value of more than $3,600,000, and have a Drug Harm Prevention figure of more than $11 million.

According to NOCG Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson, this is a sizable seizure that has significantly lessened the impact to our communities. “I am certain that we have seriously disrupted a significant supply chain throughout the Wellington region and beyond.”

“Firearms and drugs are a lethal combination, and police are determined to take every opportunity to detect, investigate, prevent, disrupt, and confront those involved in serious and organized crime.” The outstanding disruption of this illegal activity and the seizures made have rendered our neighborhoods more secure.

On June 13, 2023, the 43-year-old male was set to return to Hutt Valley District Court.
