There has been a significant increase in the shipment of illegal drugs via postal mail and parcels as a result of the growth of the Dark Web, a secretive area of the Internet renowned for criminal activity.
Battling Dark Web Perils: ERSOU’s Fight Against Illicit Goods
The ERSOU has made multiple arrests and seized more than £500,000 in illicit items from Dark Web vendors over the course of the previous 18 months.
To combat serious and organized crime, ERSOU was formed by seven police agencies from the east of England, including Norfolk and Suffolk.
Investigations have shown the selling of a range of narcotics, including as prescription pharmaceuticals, opiates used recreationally, and stupefying compounds, sometimes known as “date rape” drugs.
A number of addresses linked to online drug transactions have been found by cyber experts who have been monitoring the Dark Web covertly.
In an effort to raise public awareness of the health concerns associated with purchasing prescription pharmaceuticals and illegal narcotics online, ERSOU has sent out warning letters to recipients.
Graham Paul, a detective inspector, emphasized how important it is to understand just how risky items acquired on the Dark Web are. Most of them fall short of their advertised descriptions and are harmful and illegal.
He stressed the grave dangers of using medications obtained via the Dark Web and the risks of using inferior “prescription” pharmaceuticals that might not contain real ingredients. He disproved the idea that the Dark Web is an anonymous place and warned anyone engaged in illicit behavior that they may become the subject of an investigation.
