Man Charged in Broken Hill Drug Bust: 50kg Cannabis Seized, Two Women Sought for Inquiry

On June 14th, a guy is expected to show up in court on allegations of commercial distribution of drugs following a vehicle search in the state’s far west yesterday.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at about 10.20 am, while on patrol in Broken Hill’s Rakow Street, officials from the Barrier Police District’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command saw a white car that they thought was being driven faster than the posted speed limit.

The police stopped the automobile and spoke with the driver, a 31-year-old man with two female passengers.

According to reports, a check of the van’s boot revealed a significant amount of marijuana, estimated to weigh 50kg. The drug’s street value is reportedly $250,000.

In court, police will argue that all three fled the scene and entered a neighboring cemetery. A short while afterwards, the guy was found and brought to the Broken Hill Police Station.

The Adelaide man was accused of selling illegal drugs in commercial quantities, having illegal drugs, and eluding police.

His request for bail to appear in court today, Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, was denied.

Two ladies who might be able to help the police with their inquiry are wanted to be spoken to. They are characterized as Asian in appearance and between the ages of 30 and 40. One was wearing white pants and a black top at the time, and the other was donning light-colored pants and a shirt. They both have long, black hair.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-333-TIPS or Broken Hill Police while investigations continue.
