Each defendant’s bail was set at $1,555,500 by Judge Maryam Ahmad. A DEA inquiry turned up information that Holingshed and Lewis, who had both previously flown with illegal drugs from Los Angeles to Chicago, had planned to do the same on May 2.
Details About the Arrest
On May 2, a number of DEA Chicago Division Task Force Officers seized Holingshed and Lewis’ bags at Chicago Midway International Airport in the late afternoon.
Lewis and Holingshed were detained by additional law enforcement officers once they arrived at the airport’s baggage claim area. Lewis and Holingshed both consented to a search of their bags.
Each defendant had one checked bag that was filled with 10 kg of fentanyl. The Chicago Police Department, Bartlett Police Department, Amtrak Police, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office all provided significant assistance to the DEA Chicago Field Division over the course of the investigation.
It is emphasized to the general public that a criminal complaint merely contains a charge and does not constitute proof of guilt. The burden of proof for guilt beyond a reasonable doubt is on the state, which must do so in order for the defendant to get a fair trial.
