The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida reports that Christopher Jon Bauer, 46, was convicted and sentenced as a consequence of an anonymous tip that detectives following Bauer’s drug trafficking enterprise received.

The source revealed to the detectives that Bauer bought two ounces of fentanyl from the Dark Web each week. The narcotics parcels were subsequently sent to a location under the control of Brittany Lyn Durkin, his co-defendant. She owed Bauer money, so he had her get the pills as payment. She gathered the drug packets and delivered them to Bauer’s house, where they were chopped and sold again.

The USPIS provided the investigators with data of shipments that were sent to the address after they had made contact with them. The detectives discovered that in July and August of 2022, the address had received three shipments sent from an unidentified location in California.

At a Florida Post Office that was used to receive the drug deliveries, the detectives subsequently set up surveillance. Durkin was riding shotgun in the front seat of Bauer’s red Cadillac SUV when he pulled up to the post office. Durkin entered the post office and left with a USPS Express package in hand.

Bauer eluded the investigators when they subsequently attempted to pull over the car for a traffic infraction, which led to a protracted high-speed chase. The detectives disabled the car to terminate the pursuit.

Florida Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Possession and Distribution of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine

As they searched the car, the detectives detained Bauer and Durkin. A white powdery substance in a transparent plastic bag was discovered by the investigators inside the car. In Bauer’s possession, they discovered a similar material in a Dark vacuum-sealed container. According to DEA testing, the investigators had found 12.5 grams of methamphetamine and 65 grams of fentanyl.

On September 2nd, 2022, the police used a search warrant to enter Bauer’s home. During the search, many fake Xanax tablets and an unknown amount of a white powdery substance that tested positive for fentanyl were found.

In March 2023, Bauer admitted to having fentanyl and methamphetamine in his possession with the purpose to distribute them. He was given a federal prison term on May 22 by US District Judge Aileen M. Cannon.
