Following a traffic stop on May 18 on Interstate 8 close to the Pine Valley checkpoint, the items were seized. Aaron M. Heitke, the chief patrol agent for the San Diego sector, posted images of blue fentanyl pill bundles that Campo Station officers had found close to the Interstate 8 checkpoint. It was estimated that the fentanyl weighed 112 pounds.
The Discovery and Arrest
On May 18, agents from Campo Station stopped a vehicle for an immigration examination close to Pine Valley, California, according to a statement from Border Patrol officials. A Border Patrol K-9 unit stopped the car and searched it from all sides while walking around. The K-9 signaled that there could be narcotics in the SUV.
The agents drove the car, which was being driven by a citizen of the United States, to a nearby immigration checkpoint where the car was physically searched. Nine plastic-wrapped packets containing blue tablets were discovered by the agents during the search.
What Was Discovered
According to authorities, fentanyl was found in the tablets during testing. The tablets weighed 112 pounds, and agents estimated their street worth at more than $1.5 million.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received the driver from the agents.
The fentanyl tablets were taken into the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration. “Our Border Patrol agents are vigilant day and night to stop the smugglers who are bringing these poisons into the country.”
